Game Notes

The Red Devil's first game of the year was supposed to be a blowout. However no one told them as Chaminade fought to a respectable 10-5 game that saw them up 2-1 at one point. After some understandable early jitters Denver bound freshman face off man Christopher Handy put the team on his back as possession was almost automatic in the second half. The Red Devils had strong showings on offense as McGovern and Bozesky each put in 2 and Kalish added 1 respectively. The road will not get any easier for Handy after Monday's battle with Georgetown bound senior Alex Bean. This Saturday he will face another senior in Bowdoin bound Patrick Broughton. Both Bean and Broughton have cemented themselves as the top face off men in the state for the last 3 years. However after Monday's performance the sky is the limit for the young freshman. The Red Devil's will need another strong performance in cage from Fitzy after holding the vaunted Rams offense to a hard fought 10 goals. Possession will be a major factor for Chaminade as Durnien & Co cannot score if the Red Devils offense can string together long possessions and Chris Handy can hold his own at the face off dot.
The biggest story line will never even step foot on the playing field but will roam the sidelines for the Jr. Bills.  This offseason saw the retirement of  future Missouri Lacrosse HOF coach Mark Seyer. SLUH had to make a move but instead of rushing into the decision SLUH had an extensive search and after the dust had settled everything fell into place. Philly native Tyler Gilbert will be head coach for the Jr. Bills. Coach Gilbert comes to the U High after a storied run in California where he has been a head coach since 2006. Prior to his West Coast tenure he earned National Championhips at both the Division 1 (UVA 1999) and Division 3  (Washington College 1998) levels respectively. Lastly he is the mind behind the PPI Score (Player Performance Index). Gilbert inherits a strong SLUH program from Coach Seyer anchored by a core group of seniors. Goalie Jack Perryman is the most underrated player in the state and after a disciplined off season the Centre bound senior is in the best shape of his life and looking to lead the Jr. Bills to a state title. Right alongside Perryman will be fellow seniors Patrick Broughton who coming off a dominant All-State campaign will look to control possession for the Jr. Bills and Pat Durnien looking to continue his success after a break out season last year.

12-8 U HIGH
