Game Notes
A pair of undefeated (in-state) teams will face off under the lights this evening at SLUH. The Woodchucks of Webster Groves are coming in hot and are off to their best ever start in MSLA D1 with a record of 9-0. Leading the Chucks offensively is senior captain John Binder who has come into his own this season and leads the area with 54 points (26,28). Crease attackman Will James has established his presence in the paint for the Chucks with 25 points (23,2) as the finisher on the backside crease. On the backend Webster has one of the best defensive units in the state. Spearheaded by junior keeper Caleb Bolin. One of the top goalies in area Bolin is currently posting a 3.08 goals against average. His clearing abilities have also greatly helped the Chucks develop. Keeping things kosher in front of Bolin will be the defense law firm of Tegenkamp, Acar, and Dunlap. They are an early sliding team that loves to pressure the ball and win their 1v1 match ups. Look for the Chucks to press out and force The Jr. Bills to let the ball do the work.
The U High is coming off a solid 16-0 W over Kentucky's North Oldham. The Jr. Bills have been battle tested in games vs Benet and MUS respectively. Offensively the Jr. Bills are diversified as they have gotten solid production from all over. Attackmen Durnien and Farroll have reaped the benefits of Howley's development and that group can do some special things. Patty Flood and Grant Schenk can provide threats from up top as well. The Achilles heal this season for the Jr. Bills has been the clearing game. It reared its ugly head vs MUS and the Woodchucks have the talent and athleticism to make it a long night for the Jr. Bills if they cannot clear effectively. Coming off his first shutout of the year senior captain Jack Perryman will look to hold the high powered Webster offense at bay. This game should come down to the last few possessions and who can play a loose relaxed game and avoid unforced errors. Penalties will be huge as both teams have very efficient extra man units that can score at will. Look for a high energy, high intensity game with two of the top teams in the area. The Woodchucks have never beat SLUH so they have a monkey on their backs coming into tonight. Should be a good one.
My Call:
14-12 SLUH
