Game Notes: After some great action last night, we will be treated to a fantastic match up this evening. SLUH will be trying to break the Father Marco Curse as no team who has won the Cup has won the second meeting. However after winning the Father Marco Cup 8-7 SLUH will look to best the Spartans once again. Coming in off a dominating win over Marquette the U High is focused an ready to rock. DeSmet smashed CBC 16-8 in a game that was never close and will look to avenge their Father Marco Cup loss tonight. This will be the a high energy, high skill level game. We will once again witness an unreal battle at the face off X as senior stud Pat Broughton will take on the two headed monster of Rogers and McDonough.
The Spartans have been paced all year by seniors Leonard Jones and Derek Radke. They will need a big game from both this evening as they have been an attack heavy team all season. DeSmet has to have someone step up in their midfield and be a dodging threat to draw slides and initiate offense and off ball movement. If the Spartans cannot win a match-up up top it will be a long day. On the defensive half freshman keeper Dylan Radke has had one hell of a year but will be playing in his biggest game yet. If he can make some big saves early look for him to settle in and play a great game. He has played in big games this year but nothing is quite like the state semi's playing your biggest rival.
The U High is coming in hot. Fresh off a 19-0 win over Marquette the Jr. Bills will look to continue their success this evening and make it to championship weekend for the first time since 2013. After the loss of senior offensive leader Pat Durnien the U High has taken a "by committee" approach as they have spread the love and are getting contributions from Flood, Howley, Hall, and Corker. Pat Howley has come in to his own down the stretch and has established himself as a legitimate goal scorer. On defense Anthony Sansone has taken the reigns and leads a strong unit that includes himself, Aidan Moore, and Jeremy Konzen. The last line of defense is senior standout goalie Jack Perryman. Arguably the best tender in the state he is the heart and soul of this team and is hungry after last years loss in the semis.
This will be hard fought gritty game that should come down to the last few possessions. Hope to see everyone out there.
My Call:
12-8 SLUH
