Since the schedules came out tonight's match up has been circled on the calendar.  A young Country Day coming to the Pallas on Ballas to face the senior laden De Smet Spartans. This game is shaping up to look like the 2015 triple OT match up that saw the Rams sneak out with a 10-9 win.
Despite being on the wrong end of a few 1 goal games Country Day looks to be business as usual. Despite some whispers in the community about inexperience and still gaps to fill from last year the Rams have scrapped to a 9-3 record. Pacing Country Day has been sophomore goalie Joe Maquire with a save percentage of 61%,  GAA of 4.73 and having ironed out the wrinkles in the clearing game Maguire has been more than a pleasant surprise to Rams fans. At the face off dot sophmore Nico Feldman (68%) and junior Eric Toone (64%) have done a great job of giving Country Day possession. However they will face one of their toughest test of the season in the two headed monster of Rogers and McDonough. Offensively the Rams are more loaded than ever. With a midfield unit led by sophomore Georgetown commit Graham Bundy Jr (32/14) along side his senior brother Gaines (24/17) They do a great job of dodging down hill and intiating offense. This may be the best Rams attack unit since '14. With Feldman (25/16),  BU bound Niedringhaus (34/10) and the UVA bound Wellford (31/30) they have given defenses fits all season.
De Smet comes in after having a full week off to get things organized. The most senior laden team in the state leadership should be no issue for the Spartans. Like the Rams they are paced by sophmore goalie Dylan Radke who is coming off a stellar freshman campaign and a good performance tonight would solidify him as the best in the state. As far as face offs go the two headed monster of Max&Mike will look to be in full effect, which will be key to keep the ball out of Country Day's hands. After losing partner in crime Leonard Jones to graduation the lawfirm of Radke & Ross have stepped up for the Spartans. At this point in the season both have found their niche and are getting in the groove. With Radke both a scoring and passing threat at (21/20) and Ross more of the finisher with (20/10) they are gelling at the right time.
This game should be one of the best of the year. If De Smet is able to keep the Rams under 10 goals look for a 1 goal thriller of a final . However that is much easier said than done. The Spartans have the best leadership in the state across their whole team and that will be big under the lights in a game like this. Both teams will n
eed big play out of their specialists and EMO/Man Down units. This should be a fun one. See everyone at 7:00 at the Pallas on Ballas

My Call: 12-11 De Smet
