It is officially the best day of the lacrosse calendar year.  Despite the weather it is looking like things will clear up just in time for the opening face off. Both teams are coming off wins and with several days rest and are healthy. SLUH is looking for their third win in a row in the annual match up with the Spartans. The mood over on Ballas is slightly different as their seniors have never won The cup.
Both teams this year are about as even matched as they have been in recent years. As always this one should come down to the final minutes.
De Smet had a solid rebound game vs CBC running it up and getting their mojo back, after a disastrous showing vs Country Day. All things will start at the face off dot with the two headed monster of Rogers&McDonough will be in a dogfight with the law&order firm of Perryman&Tramelli, P.C.  With both teams being so equal possession will be a huge factor today and it all starts with face offs. Once the ball is settled SLUH will look to draw slides with their athletic midfield of Anthony Hughes and the brothers Hannah. Once they draw the slide they look to any of their three attackmen as they all are well balanced feed/finishers. Will Farroll has the hot hand of late and will need to continue his effort today under the pressure.
On defense this will be senior goalie Joe L'hommedieu's first Fr Marco cup. The senior has been huge for the Jr. Bill this year but clearing has been suspect at times. With the patented De Smet 10 man ride this could be an issue. If the Spartans are able force turnovers in the clearing game, the unsettled situations will be easy money for the veteran Radke. De Smet will need big performances from their midfield both offensively and defensively with Trost and Brown. Lastly sophmore Dylan Radke will be playing in his second Fr Marco Cup game after being thrown into the fire last year. Radke will need to play his best game today as he is facing a strong attack unit.
Game time is three hours from now hope to see a parking lot full of tents and umbrellas for the tailgate. Come out and bring the family. You won't melt

My Call 9-8 DeSmet
